Journal #3 “The Art of Quoting”
They Say, I Say; The Art of Quoting. In this chapter of this book, that I have read it is very different from what I learned in High School, In fact, it’s the total opposite. I have picked out a few key points that I thought were important information. One of the big parts that stood out to me was that while quoting some tend to be short and not explained while others overexplain a quote. The quotes that you choose to use also have to make sense to what you’re writing about, it has to fit in, it can’t just be a random quote to fill space. Giving an explanation as to why the quote was worth writing about it is also a good thing to do. Also when introducing quotes make sure you’re introducing who it came from and giving an explanation as to why you choose to use it, blending authors’ words with your own words is also very helpful.
This gave me an understanding of how to quote and not to ramble on I feel in my writing I ramble on and just don’t stop explaining the quote. This gave me an understanding of how to write in a quote and add the explanation it needs. I guess I never really thought about the reader and how it would be sometimes difficult to understand my use of quotes and how it relates to my point.
