Reconsidering the Lobster, with our past readings about animals, counsciness, and death. Once I read this article again I thought about the thoughts of the Lobsters and what they may be thinking about how and when they are going to die? This Lobster fest gets me thinking more about the Doughty and her thoughts on death. Her main things were more involvement in the death process. The other part of it was thinking more about it, when this big Lobster Fest happens there are over 100,000 people that go to this big fest to watch over 25,000 pounds of lobsters get boiled to feed all these people. People go and don’t like to think about the “death” part of it they just try to distract themselves with all the other activities that are there to do. These people are so different they shy away from deaths in our lives but they are supporting this huge lobster fest where they kill all of these lobsters. Another view on this, is the lobsters animals are very important to us humans. We have dogs and cats in our homes and we see them as cute and compassionate, but like stated in the article Animals Like Us some didn’t see fish as animals so they were okay killing them and eating them. Just like lobsters some don’t see them as cute animals they are just living creatures in the Ocean seen as insects in the ocean. Just because we don’t keep them as house pets they should still be cared for and have a little thought on how lobsters are feeling and that they have a family too. Reading this again made me feel a little more compassionate about lobsters, they aren’t any different then house animals other than they don’t live in a house and they live in an ocean instead. They aren’t to be treated so poorly yes they need to be eaten here and there to keep the count down.
