“What’s Motivating This Writer?”

Reading this chapter the Heading that stood out to me most was “When The “They Say” is Unstated” when reading this part it made me realize that you need to make sure you’re explaining, and other writers assume that their readers are so familiar with these views that they need no name or summarize in them. So with this you need to mostly make sure your readers are understanding what you’re writing about and where you’re coming from not just throwing it into your writing, and not just assuming they understand why you’re bringing that into the writing. Another important part that I really like is the part of “When the They Say is about something nobody has talked about.” This is about challenges about reading for the conversation sometimes the writers build up their arguments by responding to a lack of discussion. Sometimes you have to add more into your discussion so that your reader isn’t lost in your conversation. I like how they added “Nobody has noticed X.”  I really liked that and it helped me understand what they were trying to say in this part of the book. This part really helped me understand the struggles in reading texts, and it helped me think about what you think about when you need to respond to a text, a teacher could ask you what was this about? They could also ask you what was the argument the writer was trying to say? Then those two questions could be answered differently in a discussion.
